Michael Jordan, 27, pleaded innocent Monday to the 2013 murder of Ahmir Lee.
A grand jury indicted Jordan with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon on Friday, February 20, following a year-long police investigation. He was arrested the next morning.
Accompanied by defense attorney Lefteris Travayiakis, Jordan spoke with a blanket draped over his face in court on Monday.

After four days of deliberation, Tarayiah Hunt was found guilty of second-degree murder and Ernest Watkins was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Cherby LaJoie.
Both Hunt and Watkins had been indicted for first-degree murder.
Watkins, who was 14 years old at the time of the incident, was tried as an adult. The state automatically tries juveniles involved in murders as adults. Hunt was 20 at the time of the killing.

On the first day of deliberation, jurors found Brian MacDonald guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Anthony Spaulding. Jurors will continue deliberating on Monday to reach a verdict for Bianca Hollenbeck, MacDonald’s co-defendant.
Judge Janet Sanders asked 12 jurors to review the incident during the New Year’s Eve party at a 48 Pratt Street apartment two years ago. MacDonald, according to assistant district attorney Julie Higgins, was involved in a fight with Anthony Spaulding, a resident of the apartment, that eventually led to his death.

In the second murder conviction of the year, Darius Gibson was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Terrence Kelley, Jr. on May 28, 2010.
“On April 26, 1992, my son was placed in my arms for the first time,” Kelley’s mother told the court in a victim impact statement.
“He was so precious, his face so flawless, his skin so soft, and I whispered ‘I love you’ for the first time. On May 28, 2010, I was led to a cold table where my beautiful son lay. This time his skin was not soft — only cold, very cold. And I whispered ‘I love you’ for the last time.”

Cornell Smith pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm On February 13, marking the end of a seven-year long case investigating the murder of 22-year-old Northeastern University student Rebecca Payne in her Mission Hill apartment on May 20, 2008.
Smith, 33, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault in a dwelling. Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum and Smith’s attorney, John Amabile, recommended that Smith be charged with voluntary manslaughter instead of first-degree murder and dropping the armed assault in a dwelling charge.

Peter Castillo, 26, was arraigned and held without bail in Suffolk Superior Court on February 5. The Salem man was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of firearm in the 2012 death of Stephen Perez, a 22-year-old army veteran of Revere. Castillo pleaded innocent to the charges.
Salem News reported that Castillo allegedly shot Perez in the back with a handgun after a fight broke out in the Theater District.

A man in his 20s was fatally shot at 891 Centre Street around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to police. The man, who police have not yet identified, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Josiah Zachery, 18, of Hyde Park, was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said in a statement.

After a long period of jury selection, opening statements and testimony started Wednesday in the case of Brian MacDonald and Bianca Hollenbeck. MacDonald is charged with second-degree murder and Hollenbeck with assault and battery after the stabbing death of 21-year-old Anthony Spaulding.
On Jan. 31, 2013, around 2 a.m., the defendants allegedly went to a New Years Eve party at Spaulding’s house on 48 Pratt Street, prosecutors said. A fight between Spaulding and MacDonald erupted over noise and spilled champagne, sending the two tumbling down the stairs.

Charles Floyd, 28, was found stabbed in the area of 8 Shetland Street in Roxbury Monday evening, police said.
Floyd was discovered lying in the street at about 8:55 p.m., suffering from apparent stab wounds. Boston EMS transported him to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. He was first identified by Universal Hub.
