Jury Selection continues for Brian MacDonald and Bianca Hollenbeck trial

Despite delays from the snow storm, jury selection for the 2013 murder of Anthony Spaulding continued on Jan. 29 at Suffolk Superior Court.

Brian MacDonald, a 26-year-old from Brighton, is charged with second-degree murder of 21-year-old Spaulding at an Allston party on Jan. 1, 2013. It was the first homicide of that year.

Links Roundup: Colleagues Remember Dr. Michael Davidson

Colleagues said goodbye to Michael Davidson, the victim of a shooting at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, at a memorial service Wednesday morning. Led by the hospital’s president, Elizabeth Nabel, 150 colleagues dressed in scrubs placed roses at the hospital’s flagpole in honor of the surgeon.

Davidson, a 44-year-old cardiovascular surgeon, was allegedly shot twice by Stephen Pasceri of Millbury, who then killed himself with the same gun. Davidson died of his injuries at the hospital on Wednesday.

Doctor Shot at Brigham & Women’s Hospital Dies

Dr. Michael Davidson, the surgeon wounded Tuesday in a shooting at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, died of his injuries Wednesday, Boston police announced.

The suspected shooter, 55-year-old Stephen Pasceri, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police found him just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, after responding to a call for shots fired at the hospital.

A stabbing Friday evening left 29-year-old Sean Dwyer dead, according to Boston police.

Dwyer was found with apparent stab wounds near 661 Adams Street in Dorchester. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Story of Homicide Watch Boston

The message of Homicide Watch is simple: Mark every death. Remember every victim. Follow every case.

What started in Washington, DC, has now moved to other cities across the country including Boston. Homicide Watch Boston is a partnership with Northeastern University where student journalists work to shed light on the people and stories that might not otherwise receive news coverage.

This video features Homicide Watch Co-Founder Chris Amico along with Dina Kraft, the associate coordinator of the Media Innovation program at Northeastern’s School of Journalism.

Boston’s Garden of Peace Gives a Shared Place to Mourn and Remember

Evelyn Tobin is a former board of directors chair for The Garden of Peace, a memorial in Boston dedicated to victims of homicide who have a connection to Massachusetts.

Tobin’s daughter, Kathleen Dempsey was 31-years-old when she was murdered in her home in Lexington in August of 1992. The Garden of Peace was dedicated in 2004.

Ten years later, there are more than 900 names engraved on stones in the garden’s dry riverbed and along the walls surrounding it. It is a visual reminder of the impact of violence on hundreds of families in Massachusetts.

Legacy Lives On: Victims’ Families Come Together for Grief, Support

This is the story of Clarissa Turner, a mother in mourning whose 24-year-old son Marquis was murdered in 2011. Marquis was shot in the back of the head and found lying on a street in Boston.

My tomorrow never came,” Turner said.

Through her own grief, Clarissa discovered a way to help other families cope with the tragedy of homicide. She founded Legacy Lives On, a support group for parents and other family members who have lost a loved one in this horrific way. The group focuses on bringing awareness to how families are being affected by street violence.

Through Legacy Lives On, these families have begun to find hope, something so valuable for their journey through the grieving process.

Woman shot and killed in the South End

A woman was fatally shot at 18 Lattimore Court in the South End early in the morning of Saturday, November 1.

Boston police officers, responding to a radio call for shots fired, discovered a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, believed to be in her late thirties, was transported to Boston Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Darison Pujols Shot and Killed in Hyde Park

Darison Pujols, 23, was fatally shot in Hyde Park Saturday, November 4. Boston police officers responded to a radio call for a person shot at 226 Margaretta Drive, and found two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The injuries of the second victim were not life-threatening.

Boston police have arrested 53-year-old Troy Adams of Roxbury in connection with the shooting.
