Friends and neighbors said 31-year-old Grisel Sanchez was a good person and a great mother who was killed on a simple trip to the store. The disbelief and shock refused to sink in as people who knew Sanchez struggle to understand why the mother of three was struck and killed by a stray bullet.
The Boston Globe reported that Sanchez had been laughing and drinking wine with her girlfriends on the evening of July 28 before leaving to buy a pack of cigarettes. On her way, the Boston Police Department was alerted to approximately six gun shots in the area of 339 Seaver St. in Dorchester.
Sanchez was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said she was declared dead at the scene.
Chief William Gross was quoted by WCVB News:
“On arrival, they located an outdoor crime scene. A Hispanic female, approximately 30 years of age, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Unfortunately, she was pronounced (dead) on the scene,” Chief William Gross said.
Sanchez’s friends told MyFoxBoston she was at the wrong place at the wrong time when she was “gunned down.”
The Globe reported that a “group of young men” sat on a porch just ahead of the path Sanchez had been on when she was shot. “They just took an innocent life,” Angelica Rivera, Sanchez’s sister, said in an interview with the Globe. “Somebody who never bothered anybody.”
The Boston Police Department is still investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information to call the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
