Tasika Matthews was arraigned and held without bail on March 3 for the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Maria Sanchez.
According to Boston Police, Matthews was arrested at her Dorchester home earlier that day and arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court. Innocent pleas were entered on her behalf for charges of murder and armed assault with intent to murder, according to the Boston Globe.
Matthews, 30, allegedly stabbed Sanchez, a Mattapan resident, in the back following a fight that broke out at a Dorchester party in the early hours of October 18, 2014.
According to the Boston Globe:
Two groups at the party, one that Matthews was a part of and the other that included Sanchez and another woman, got into a dispute, according to Assistant District Attorney Lynn Feigenbaum. The argument moved outside, where Matthews allegedly fought with a relative of Sanchez and stabbed her repeatedly in the torso, causing serious injuries, Feigenbaum said.
Matthews then allegedly stabbed Sanchez multiple times in the back, and fled, according to Feigenbaum. Sanchez was taken to Boston Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Matthews is expected back in court on March 31.
