In brief:
There were no homicides reported this week in Boston. However, the Boston Police Department released firearms data Wednesday showing that while non-fatal shootings have decreased more than 50 percent from 2013 to 2014, gun-related murders are on the rise. From Jan. 1 to July 6, 2014, there were 24 reported homicides at the hands of a firearm — two more than were reported during the same period last year.
This revelation preceded a surge of violence over the weekend in which four people were shot within a span of seven hours. At this time, no one has been pronounced dead.
A spokesperson for BPD declined to comment on the findings.
