No Bail for Man Charged in 2012 Murder

(Boston) — The Dorchester man accused of killing 42-year-old Orlando Guerrero during a 2012 armed robbery was denied bail at his arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

LUIS DIAZ (D.O.B. 8/9/84) was arraigned today in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition in connection with Guerrero’s 2012 shooting death. Clerk Magistrate Gary Wilson ordered Diaz held without bail at the request of Assistant District Attorney Holly Broadbent.

According to prosecutors, Guerrero was robbed of cash and fatally shot in the area of 11 Windsor St. in Boston’s South End on the morning of Dec. 15, 2012. Based on information provided by a tipster, Boston Police identified Diaz and another man, JOSE CARRASQUILLO (D.O.B. 3/6/71), as suspects in the killing.

Carrasquillo allegedly made statements to police indicating his involvement in the plan to rob Guerrero. He was charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with the case in March 2013 and has been held without bail since that time.

Evidence collected during the course of an investigation and presented to the Suffolk County Grand Jury led to Diaz’s indictment this week.

Diaz is represented by attorney James Coviello. He will return to court Aug. 5.
