Police on Tuesday identified the man killed Jan. 18 in a shooting at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Evelyn Street in Mattapan as Luis Arroyo, 21, of Roxbury.
Officers responded to the scene at 8:13 p.m., according to a police statement. Arroyo was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he later died.
In a story on Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported that Arroyo was the half-brother of a person believed to be a gang member in Roxbury:
It was not clear if his death was gang-related, but police warned of a possible backlash on the streets, according to internal police documents.
“Officers should note the potential for increased emotions among the victim’s family and associates and the potential for retaliation against whomever they perceive to be responsible,” the documents stated.
This past weekend, four people were killed in Boston in three separate shootings. The mayor on Monday said the spate of violence is believed to be gang-related.
